Let the building breathe

Our friends Aiden and Michael offered to come over at the weekend with pick axes and a jack hammer. The task at hand was to dig up concrete along the front of the building and a bit along the side of the dirt floor room.

The job was finished before lunch and our skip filled to the brim!

I carried on raking out the old mortar in the places where it was needed, but didn’t get finished because the ground now significantly lower meant I couldn’t reach any more!

The plan is to put gravel down in place of the concrete which will allow the moisture to escape through the walls of the building and out through the gravel, instead of being trapped in the walls.

We will wait until the repointing and brick work is done before we put the gravel down and out only deadline is to get the repointing done before the first frost…
