One way to improve the condition of the walls of our beautiful old pub is to dig up the concrete and line with a breathable membrane and top with pea gravel. In a previous post you saw the picture of the boys and their jackhammer digging up the concrete.
We then chose some edging stones and had some local builders bed them in.
The night before the gravel turned up we popped the membrane down:
At 8am the following morning we all piled out to welcome the truck of gravel:
We roughly spread it out with a rake and then last week we barrowed the excess gravel away and finished the job off. Many hands make light work!
All this efforts should help the damp walls breathe by encouraging the water to evaporate away.
